Rick aka FuzzyMemories TV, I had a nice post answering wmbrown6's question about what time "The Tonight Show" aired on this date, and it disappeared. I wondered why it happened. I did not post any links or any bad comments, so this is a mystery. I hope I not being censored, but in a way that might be happening to me. In some of the posts I might come across as a know-it-all or some have called me "Captain Obvious". I apologize if that happens, however I try to be mindful that anything you post, can comeback to haunt you, and also to be respectful because it's the right thing to do. So do you have any ideas why this is happening?

WNBC-TV (channel 4) did aired this show with Bill Cosby as a guest host who was covered for Johnny Carson. This was during that time, the 1982 World Series took place where the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers was played during game 6 due to a rain delay, after the show, it went back to the game since it was on tape delay. And then, the Cardinals won beating the Brewers 13-1 where the series was tied 3-3, and game 7 came the following night where the Cardinals won and became the 1982 World Champions.

Would you know what time period this aired on WNBC that night? I know it was an hour earlier over WMAQ . . .

I was 10 when that played I watched every second of every game and became a huge cardinals fan. I have never watched an entire series since that day. I remember possibly Lonnie Smith jumped over the wall to steal a home run. So amazing.

@@wmbrown6I have an idea as to when the Tonight show aired during the World Series rain delay. Per the St. Louis Dispatch from Oct.20 1982, it says: "(Doc) Medich (Brewers reliever) was miffed that after a rain delay of 2 hours and 13 minutes, with the Cardinals leading, 8-0, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the teams were ordered back to the field at 20 minutes before midnight." When we rejoin Dick Enberg (his only World Series assignment for NBC) he says that they (MLB) were 10 minutes away from restarting game six. If we extrapolate from the game restart time of 11:40 pm CDT , Dick says this at 11:30 pm CDT. This means that the Tonight Show started at 10:30 pm Central, 11:30 pm Eastern, the normal time Carson aired in 1982. This leads me to believe that due to the long rain delay NBC allowed their affiliates in the Eastern and Central time zones to air their local news at 11pm/10 Central and Carson afterwards.

It appears by this point, Doc was the announcer on the nights Johnny was off. Up to the late '70's he occasionally filled in for Ed when Johnny was on. (Even to the point of on occasion handing Carnac the envelopes that had been hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar at the porch of Funk & Wagnalls.)

@@wmbrown6Reportedly, Johnny was getting frustrated by Ed’s increasing absences for other gigs and corporate events. He made it clear that the Tonight Show was going to have to be Ed’s top priority if he wanted to continue working there, and Ed quickly started synching up his schedule with Johnny’s.
